As a portrait artist:
Susan Fay Schauer is highly successful and sought after portrait artist. She creates with vision, passion, and talent. Her delicate, realistic, and often narrative portraits are works of art and are meant to leave a legacy.
Born in Canton Ohio, the daughter of a talented artist father (Thomas Alfred Schauer), Susan was encouraged to express herself through drawing, painting, and sculpture. Educated in both the sciences and the arts, Susan received her B.S. in biology at Denison University. She went on to receive a graduate education in the neurosciences at Princeton University, all the while studying the arts on the side. In the late 1980s however, Susan turned her full attention to her art and has not looked back. She has had inspiration and recognition in many art forms, including woodturning, portraiture, and fiber arts. Her work has been exhibited and sold in galleries from Washington DC to San Francisco and she has work in the permanent collection of the White House.
Living and painting in Talbot County, on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Susan attracts clients from all over the United States. Clients from Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania often visit Susan in her studio. Her Easton studio overlooking the Chesapeake Bay brings in beautiful light and provides an inspiring atmosphere to work in.
Susan's love of people, her high artistic standards, and professional commitment combine to make the creative process an enjoyable experience for all involved. Susan truly enjoys working with children and delights in the process she and the child go through to develop a work of art.
Susan has most recently studied with the exceptional figure painter and sculpture Robert Liberace. She has studied for years under the talented realistic painter James Plumb. Susan has painted CEO's, family groups, and individuals of all ages. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the Colored Pencil Society of America, and teaches art to adult students.
Susan creates her art with either oil or pencil. Susan's work is a reflection of her life philosophy - "only the best will do". She has high artistic standards and a professional commitment to the client and to the creative process.
Susan paints CEOs, family groups, individuals, and children of all ages.
I understand the importance of what I do. For many clients investing in a family or individual portrait is a once in a lifetime investment. It will live on in the homes and offices of generations to come and thus, must be true, honest, accurate, and beautiful.
